The 7th International Summer School “Georgian Manuscript”
Tbilisi, Georgia
July 16-22, 2024

The Korneli Kekelidze Georgian National Centre of Manuscripts in
collaboration with the Catholic University of Louvain (UCL, Louvain-la-Neuve, Belgium) and with
financial support from the Shota Rustaveli National Science Foundation will hold the 7th
International Summer School “Georgian Manuscript”. The goal of the project is to popularize
Kartvelological studies, emphasize the versatility and importance of the Georgian manuscript as a
product of intercultural relations; to continue scientific traditions established by Korneli Kekelidze,
Ilia Abuladze, Elene Metreveli, Zaza Aleksidze, development of international cooperative relations
and integration of Georgian scientists into the international scientific space.
The working program of the International Summer School of the National Center of Manuscripts is
dynamic and covers almost all the main fields related to the study of manuscripts. The program
includes five study modules:

  1. Georgia: history, language, script;
  2. Georgian Manuscript - genre and thematic diversity;
  3.  Georgian historical documents;
  4. Georgian early printed books and
  5. The National Centre of Manuscripts, as a unique institution hosting the forum - the most important repository of manuscripts and scientific research center.

The modules consist of 30 lectures, a practical course "Introduction to the History of the Ancient Georgian Language", two workshops - a paper-making and restoration workshop; an interactive program - simulation game "How do we protect cultural heritage?", thematic panel discussion "Natural science knowledge in Georgian and oriental manuscripts preserved in the antiquities of Georgia" and the exhibition "Georgian manuscript". The logical end of the school will be the presentation session where both Georgian and foreign participants will present their research findings (mini-conference). To participate in the 7th International Summer School, we invite Georgian and foreign young researchers and students (MA, PhD) whose scientific interests correspond to the main scientific research directions of the National Centre of Manuscripts – classical and/or ancient Georgian philology, source studies, archival studies, manuscript book culture, restoration, digitization, etc. The summer school is scheduled to be held on July 16-22, 2024.
